Biography
Anthony Williams was born on October 25th, 1996 in Munich, Germany, and spent his childhood in Durango, Colorado, USA. Fascinated by the piano from an early age, he played in several ensembles by high school, taking part in various jazz festivals. He began playing the trumpet at age 15, primarily self-teaching after taking a few lessons.
After high school, Anthony earned a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from the HMTM Hannover under Tino Derado (piano) and Benny Brown (trumpet). He earned his master’s degree in jazz composition at the HMT Leipzig. He still writes and arranges music for a number of Hannover-based projects, such as the jazz/funk/soul group Hagelslag, the Tony Williams Quartet, the Was Nun Jazz Sextet, and the Tonband Hannover.
From January 2019 - May 2020, Anthony has organized and directed the "D Room Sessions", a monthly series of feature videos where he arranges original songs by talented young musicians for a large ensemble, then recording the pieces in the D Room Studio in Hannover. These included guests like singer Becca Stevens, trombonist Nils Wogram, drummer Eva Klesse, Hannover band 'The Hirsch Effekt", BuJazzo saxophonist Jakob Manz and American funk trumpeter Gary Winters, with other big names planned for the future.
Building on the success of the D Room Sessions, Anthony arranged and produced the EP “GREGAER” with The Hirsch Effekt and a 20-piece studio orchestra. The EP was recorded in September 2020. In addition, Anthony successfully crowdfunded an album, featuring 10 solo piano adaptations of pieces by The Hirsch Effekt, which was released in 2021.
With the jazz sextet Was Nun he has released two albums, toured in the USA and accompanied five stage plays in Celle, one as musical director. He also played keyboards in the stage play "Little Shop of Horrors", also at the Schlosstheater Celle.
Since 2022, in addition to his musical exploits, Anthony is pursuing a career in software development, starting with an education at 42 Wolfsburg, a renowned peer-to-peer learning institution.
